Lafayette: Bridging Worlds, Reshaping History
30-Minute History Documentary Featuring One-of-a-Kind Exhibition
The documentary is available in two versions: English with French subtitles, and French with English subtitles.
Coinciding with the recent commemoration of America 250 and the 250th anniversary of the Franco-American alliance in 2028, the film captures the curation process and the historical discoveries behind the landmark international exhibition, Lafayette between France and America: History and Legend. Hosted at the National Archives Museum in Paris, the exhibition explored the life and contributions of the Marquis de Lafayette, who participated in both the U.S. and French Revolutions, and who is widely credited for the friendship between France and America that endures today.
Directed and produced by award-winning filmmakers Pierre de Parscau and Dominic Egan, the film showcases rarely seen spaces within the National Archives Museum and follows the making of the groundbreaking exhibition that explored the journey of this pivotal figure in transatlantic history showcasing rare portraits, personal memoirs, books, artwork, prints, memorabilia, and documents.
“In addition to the remarkable story of Lafayette, what fascinated us was the human story behind bringing this exhibition together,” said Pierre de Parscau and Dominic Egan. “The documentary details how historians, archivists, curators, translators, and institutions across France and the United States worked together with extraordinary care and dedication to make this exhibition a success. We wanted to capture that collaborative journey and offer audiences a rare look at how history is preserved, interpreted, and shared.”
Co-curated by Lafayette College professor Olga Anna Duhl among other renowned scholars from France and the United States, the exhibition was visited by more than 60,000 people during its three-month display from April 1st to July 14, 2026.
